Cennergi Sponsors Africa Energy Indaba 2013

Successful partnerships are a key ingredient to moving Africa from talking about energy to providing energy stability and security for the Continent. The Africa Energy Indaba (AEI) is the energy networking and thought leadership event with a proven track record of catalysing regional business and government connections that tackle, not just talk about, Africa’s huge energy deficits. The Africa Energy Indaba is pleased to announce the establishment of a strategic partnership to its 2013 event: Cennergi (Pty) Ltd. The partnership is exciting news for delegates and energy stakeholders who will attend the February 2013 event in Johannesburg. As a leading future independent power producer on the Continent with the backing of Exxaro and Tata Power, sponsoring the fifth annual edition of the AEI was a natural decision for Cennergi. The event is endorsed by the World Energy Council and the South Africa National Energy Association (SANEA) and as such, is the leading energy event on the Continent.
“We are pleased to announce our sponsorship of the 2013 Africa Energy Indaba. We see natural synergies between Africa’s leading energy event and our brand as an IPP that is committed to excellence, sustainability and lasting energy solutions,” says Cennergi CEO, Thomas Garner. Cennergi has made its footprint in the developing South African renewable energy space and is focusing on sizeable coal, gas and hydro projects with an emissions factor lower than that of the region ((0.3 – 0.7 kgCO2/kWh), thereby contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions. The company secured two wind farm projects in the Eastern Cape during the second bidding window of the South African Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer’s Procurement Programme (REIPPP). “Cennergi is currently a leading visionary in the evolving energy marketplace in the sub-Saharan Africa region with the aim of becoming the leading independent power producer on the Continent. We believe that the AEI aligns well with our future role in Africa through its cutting edge programme, attendees and networking opportunities,” says Garner.
Liz Hart, the managing director of Siyenza who are organising the event, sees Cennergi’s sponsorship of the Africa Energy Indaba as a symbiotic relationship between two leading entities. “South Africa has been lauded internationally for the manner in which the Intergrated Resource Plan (IRP) has been implemented and with foreign direct investment of R70 billion in the first 12 months, the IRP tackles many key issues, such as infrastructure development, employment creation, etc. and we are delighted that Cennergi, one of the successful bidders has joined our event as a leading partner.” Says Hart. The 5th annual African Energy Indaba (AEI) will take place from the 19th-21st February 2013 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. The programme will be covering issues facing the African energy agenda, including issues around renewable energy, opportunities in the energy sector, financing of energy projects and what is new and trending in energy.
